Policies
Child safeguarding & consent
BFFS is committed to protecting the dignity, safety and privacy of every child, survivor and community member we work with.
Our commitment
We design our programmes, communications and field work around a simple principle: children and survivors come first. No single outcome, fundraising goal, or media opportunity is ever more important than the safety and dignity of the people we serve.
Photo and story consent
- We never publish a minor's full name alongside a face-identifying photograph without written, informed consent from a parent or legal guardian.
- We never publish identifying information about a survivor of gender-based violence, even with consent, unless that person is an adult who has explicitly requested public attribution and signed a release.
- Wide community shots and back-of-head framings are the default on our website, printed materials and social media.
- Consent can be withdrawn at any time. If a featured person or their guardian contacts us, we take the content down within 72 hours.
Staff and volunteer conduct
Every BFFS staff member, field volunteer and partner is briefed on our child protection code of conduct before interacting with children. Annual refreshers are compulsory. No adult is ever alone with a child in an unsupervised setting.
Confidential reporting
If you need to report a safeguarding concern — involving a child, a survivor, or any BFFS programme — you can contact our safeguarding lead in confidence at safeguarding@brightfuturefoundation.org. Reports received at this address are read only by our Executive Director and the safeguarding focal point, and are not shared internally beyond that circle without the reporter's consent.
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, please call the Kenyan national Gender Violence Hotline on 1195 or the child helpline on 116. BFFS's office line is +254 714 582 013.
Data protection
We comply with the Kenya Data Protection Act (2019). Personal data shared with BFFS for programme enrolment, donation processing, or volunteer recruitment is stored only for as long as needed and never sold or traded.
This is a public summary of our internal safeguarding policy. Donors, partners and regulators may request the full document by writing to our office.
